Bluetooth Technology

What is Bluetooth and how do I connect my car with my phone

We're glad to help; just read the information and find an applicable video below.

Bluetooth technology uses short-range radio frequencies to wirelessly connect and exchange information between Bluetooth-enabled electronic devices such as mobile phones. This Subaru system combines the wireless Bluetooth calling with the convenience of touch screen controls. The Subaru Bluetooth Hands-free system connects to your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone -- automatically* and wirelessly -- allowing you to make and receive calls using control buttons on your steering wheel and navigation screen. You can even browse phone numbers uploaded from your mobile phone.

With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the system "pairs" with compatible mobile phones allowing it to send & receive voice data and receive calls using the control buttons on your Subaru's steering wheel and navigation screen. A microphone in the vehicle picks up your voice, while your caller's voice is heard through the front speakers of the vehicle's audio system. These are the same instructional videos your Subaru salesperson is trained with, placed here to answer the question, "How do I pair my phone to my car if I have Bluetooth?"

BlueConnect®

Seamless Integration

BlueConnect works with other systems within the car to provide seamless integration. When you receive a call, BlueConnect will mute the stereo and display "CALL" on the radio's screen and then un-mute the sound system when the call concludes. You can even transfer a call back to your cell phone if you arrive at your destination and wish to continue the conversation.

Voice Activated

Accessing virtually all of BlueConnect's features is done by voice command. But you don't have to worry about memorizing a list of commands, BlueConnect will remind you about which options are available if you seem to be unsure of what to say next.

Easy Set Up

After pairing your phone to the system for the first time, BlueConnect can automatically* pair with the same phone each time you enter your car and turn it on. BlueConnect can remember up to seven different previously connected phones and automatically connect to the phone that is the highest priority based on your preferences.

Supports Multiple Languages

BlueConnect's advanced voice recognition isn't limited to just English. Both North American Spanish and Canadian French languages are also fully supported. Switching between languages couldn't be easier. For example, simply say "Espanol" and BlueConnect will ask you in both English and Spanish if you would like to change the language to Spanish. That's it.

Available Across the Subaru Vehicle Product Line**

BlueConnect is currently available as a genuine accessory for 2011+ Outback and Legacy vehicles that do not have a standard Bluetooth hands-free calling system. Outback and Legacy models equipped with the Harman Kardon audio package and/or navigation are equipped from the factory with the Type 1 Bluetooth system. BlueConnect is also available as a genuine accessory on specific Impreza, Forester, and Tribeca models.

Harmon Kardon Premium Audio System

Keep your hands on the wheel and off the phone with the convenience to operate your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone while in your Subaru. Hands-free Bluetooth operation allows the use of your phone through the Subaru audio system without the phone being in your hand, or even in sight.

The control buttons on the steering wheel allow for accessible use in making and receiving phone calls. Additionally, calls can be made by either browsing through your uploaded contact list or dialing through Voice Activation.

Additional phone pairings on the same Bluetooth system allows ease and flexibility with multiple phones or when additional people are in the vehicle, as all parties can utilize the same functions of the Bluetooth system.
The vehicle's audio system automatically mutes when a call is made or received, regardless of what is being played on your audio system at the time.

Bluetooth with the Navigation System

TomTom Navigation System

This Subaru TomTom® Navigation Bluetooth® system combines wireless Bluetooth® calling with the convenience of touch screen controls. The system registers or "pairs" with compatible mobile phones allowing it to send & receive calls using the control buttons on the navigation screen. Once paired, the system connects automatically to your Bluetooth® enabled mobile phone. A microphone in the TomTom® picks up your voice, while your caller's voice is heard through the left front speaker of the vehicle's audio system.
